The Emergency Medicine Coder is responsible for reviewing patient medical records and assigning appropriate CPT-4 codes and physician identification numbers into the billing system, adhering to coding guidelines. This role requires meeting productivity and quality standards to ensure timely month-end closing processes.

  • Review documentation on patient records and assign CPT-4 codes and physician identification numbers for each patient record.
  • Identify errors, problems, or issues and present to Coding management for resolution.
  • Complete daily productivity reports.
  • Attend departmental and training meetings as scheduled.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Extensive knowledge of ICD-9 and ICD-10 diagnostic coding and CPT-4 procedural coding.
  • Extensive knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Typing speed of 35-45 WPM.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • CPC, CCS-P, or RHIT certification or eligibility within two years.
  • 1-3 years previous physician coding experience required or graduation from a coding technical school.
