Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Texas DSHS certification as EMT
  • Possess and maintain all certifications required by the Medical Control Board and by the UT Health East Texas EMS Master Contract.
  • Possess and maintain current Texas motor vehicle operator’s license and meet all company requirements according to policy

Nice To Haves

  • National Registry
  • International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) certification or Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) certification
  • Pediatric Education for Pre-Hospital Professionals (PEPP) certification or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
  • 2 years of driving experience

Responsibilities

  • EMTs are accountable for responding to all assigned calls in the most appropriate, efficient manner and providing the highest standards of patient care while keeping a safe and hazard-free environment.
  • The EMT works with a Paramedic on an MICU ambulance and contributes to overall patient care in the areas of patient assessment, triage, packaging and transport according to protocol.
  • There are occasions in which the EMT may work with another EMT on a BLS unit within the system.
