The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) position at LifeStar Ambulance involves providing critical medical care and transportation for patients in emergency situations. The primary function of the EMT is to operate emergency vehicles, both basic and advanced life-support, while delivering emergency medical care under general supervision. EMTs are responsible for assessing injuries, administering emergency medical care, and extricating trapped individuals. This role requires a compassionate approach to patient care, ensuring that individuals receive the necessary medical attention during transport to medical facilities. In this position, EMTs will administer first-aid treatment and life-support care to sick or injured persons in pre-hospital settings. They will operate essential medical equipment such as EKGs, external defibrillators, and bag-valve resuscitators in advanced life-support environments. EMTs are expected to perform initial assessments and manage illnesses or injuries according to established protocols and procedures. They will also maintain emergency vehicles and medical equipment, ensuring that all supplies are replenished and that equipment is in good working order. Communication is a key aspect of the role, as EMTs must coordinate with other emergency medical team members, police, and fire department personnel. They will communicate with dispatchers and treatment center personnel to provide updates on patient conditions and to arrange for the reception of patients. Additionally, EMTs will prepare patients for transport, ensuring compliance with emergency medical transport regulations and protocols. Training and guiding lower-level technicians or students may also be part of the responsibilities, along with following departmental policies and safety standards.
