About The Position

The Emergency Medical Technician - Basic (EMT-B) position at Clay County EMS is a part-time role focused on providing emergency medical care and support at the Basic Level. The EMT-B will respond to emergency calls, transport patients, and perform life-saving procedures while ensuring proper documentation and patient assessment. This role requires a commitment to maintaining certifications and the ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

• Certification by the State of North Carolina as an EMT at the Basic Level.
• Ability to obtain certifications such as Basic Life Support, International Trauma Life Support, and Advanced Stroke Life Support within established timeframes.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to physically perform basic life operational functions, including very heavy work exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally.

• Experience in emergency medical services or related field.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the operator of the emergency medical unit responding to calls for assistance and transport patients to medical facilities.
• Administer basic level life support techniques and procedures based on patient assessment.
• Gather patient medical and insurance information and input it into the computer.
• Complete necessary records and reports for emergency calls, including billing documentation and legal accountability.
• Administer paramedic level life support techniques and procedures based on patient assessment, including drawing blood and administering approved medications.
• Initiate intravenous fluids and perform pulmonary ventilation as needed.
• May serve as senior staff on an assigned shift.
