About The Position

The University of New Mexico, School of Medicine, Department of Emergency Medicine, Emergency Medical Services Consortium, is seeking to hire part-time on-call Tactical Emergency Medicine Service Paramedics. The successful applicants will respond to statewide emergencies under the supervision of the EMS Medical Direction Consortium. They will work to support the EMS Academy and EMS Consortium through remote on-site clinical care and education. The individuals will be responsible for primary advanced life support patient care directly supporting EMS Consortium contracts. This position requires a minimum of three 24-hour stand-by (on-call) shifts monthly with the ability to respond for up to 12-hours or possibly longer per call out. Paramedics attend emergency medical requests as they arise; render on-site emergency assistance to patients as required. Our team performs or assists in the initial assessment and management of illness or injury to emergency patients in accordance with specified protocol and procedure. Prepares or assists in the preparation of patients for transport, ensuring compliance with emergency medical transport regulations, protocol, and procedure. Provides or assists in the provision of basic direct patient care, as required in each individual case. Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards. Inspects emergency medical equipment to ensure serviceability and compliance with safety and infection control regulations and standards. Completes and transfers patient care information and records as per established procedures. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least 1 year of experience in the field of pre-hospital EMS.
  • NM licensure as Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)/Paramedic.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Nice To Haves

  • NM EMS Paramedic license in good standing.
  • National Registry Paramedic certification.
  • Minimum 3 years field experience in high volume EMS system in direct patient care, preferred 5 years.
  • Specialized education and training in austere, tactical, or operational medicine work preferable.
