The Emergency Manager at Northwestern Medicine is responsible for implementing and overseeing the emergency management program across the organization. This role involves ensuring compliance with emergency management standards, facilitating training and exercises, and integrating hospital operations with community emergency plans. The Emergency Manager will work closely with the Director of Emergency Management to advance preparedness and response strategies, ensuring that the hospital meets regulatory requirements and organizational expectations.

  • Design, implement, oversee, and test all elements of the Northwestern Medicine Emergency Management program.
  • Ensure alignment of assigned hospital and departments with the NMHC Emergency Management strategic plan.
  • Implement NMHC Emergency Management standards to comply with regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain hospital-specific emergency management policies, plans, or playbooks.
  • Participate in system-wide emergency management improvement projects as assigned.
  • Integrate the hospital with community activities and emergency plans.
  • Share 24/7 on-call responsibilities with other EM department members.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on incident command activation for hospital leadership.
  • Conduct local emergency response orientation and refresher education sessions.
  • Facilitate the Hospital Emergency Management Committee and lead assigned subcommittees.
  • Support planning, executing, and reviewing emergency management exercises and drills.
  • Utilize information systems to support Emergency Management expectations.
  • Assist with the Hospital Preparedness Program (HPP) grant and ensure deliverables.
  • Bachelor's degree in emergency management or related field.
  • Experience in emergency management or emergency response, with knowledge of Incident Command Systems (ICS) and National Incident Management System (NIMS).
  • Experience with Microsoft Suite (Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio).
  • Completion of IS 100, 200, 700, and 800 courses.
  • Completion of ICS 300 and 400 within one year of hire (if not previously completed).
  • Completion of Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP) within two years of hire (if not previously completed).
  • Experience maintaining emergency management programs, including hazard analysis and disaster response.
  • Skill in managing projects collaboratively in a large organization.
  • Experience conducting trainings and exercises.
  • Two years of program/project management experience in a hospital or healthcare setting.
  • Master's degree in emergency management or related field.
  • Working knowledge of Hospital Incident Command Systems (HICS).
