About The Position

The Emergency Management Specialist provides assistance in Anoka County-wide efforts to prepare for, respond to, and recover from all hazard’s emergencies, events, disasters. The Emergency Management Specialist works under direct supervision and possesses beginning to working knowledge of subject matter, handles basic issues and problems associated with emergency management, and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff. This temporary, on-call, non-exempt position is located at the various Anoka County facilities and field locations. Interviews will take place the week of April 6th, 2026 for those selected to move forward in the hiring process.

Requirements

  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successfully pass driver’s license background check.
  • Possess or ability to obtain within twenty-four months of hire a Certified Emergency Manager Certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in Emergency Management, Public Safety or related field.
  • Experience in emergency management or public safety.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support Anoka County with emergency management, including mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery.
  • Assist with the procurement and maintenance of equipment and technology in support of operations.
  • Participate in planning, coordination, and management functions designed to improve the emergency management program.
  • Assist in the execution of various projects supporting emergency management training efforts.
  • Partner with public safety organizations at various community events.
  • Demonstrate strong cognitive abilities, including problem solving, task prioritization, comprehension of written materials, and adherence to verbal instructions.
  • Assist with other duties, as assigned.
