About The Position

The ideal candidate will have experience working at the federal, state, tribal or local level and familiar with the National Flood Insurance program. In this position the candidate will oversee compliance with statute, regulation or policy; communicate technical information to non-technical local officials. The individual will collaborate and maintain relationships and train a broad and diverse group of stakeholders.

Requirements

• You must be a U.S. citizen to apply for this position.
• You must successfully pass a background investigation.
• Selective Service registration required.
• Current federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements.
• You must be able to obtain and maintain a Government credit card.
• You must be able to deploy with little or no advance notice to anywhere in the United States and its territories for an extended period of time.

Nice To Haves

• Experience working with state and local officials on interpreting the laws, regulations and policies of the National Flood Insurance Program.
• Experience providing technical assistance to state and local partners, engineers and the public: permitting, resolving violations according to adopted ordinances, letters of map change, elevation certificates, special flood hazard area and mapping updates.
• Experience communicating benefits of floodplain management to local officials.

Responsibilities

• Reviewing state floodplain management model ordinances and local ordinances for NFIP minimum standard compliance.
• Providing technical assistance to members of the public, engineers and local officials on property specific program minimum standards and submittal of documentation for map revisions.
• Traveling with internal colleagues to deliver training, communicate the impacts of new maps or support flood disaster recovery efforts.
