About The Position

The Lemuel Shattuck Hospital (LSH), operated by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH), is seeking an experienced individual to be The Hospital Emergency Management Coordinator. The incumbent is responsible for the planning, implementation, and coordination of emergency management activities within the hospital. This role is critical in ensuring the hospital's readiness to respond effectively to emergencies, disasters, and other crisis situations. The Emergency Management Coordinator will work closely with various departments and stakeholders to develop and maintain comprehensive emergency management plans, facilitate training and exercises, and promote a culture of preparedness and resilience. Hours: Monday-Friday 8:30-4:30PM, Weekends Off

Requirements

  • Direct experience with Emergency Management scenarios
  • Knowledge of Emergency Management theories and Incident Command concepts.
  • Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional, administrative or managerial experience in business administration, business management or public administration the major duties of which involved program management, program administration, program coordination, program planning and/or program analysis, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
  • Substitutions: I. A Bachelor's or higher degree with a major in business administration, business management or public administration may be substituted for the required experience. II. A Bachelor's or higher degree with a major other than in business administration, business management or public administration may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, update, and maintain the hospital's emergency management plans, including response protocols, continuity of operations plans, and recovery strategies.
  • Collaborate with departmental leaders and subject matter experts to ensure the inclusion of all relevant stakeholders in emergency planning activities.
  • Conduct regular assessments and audits to identify gaps, vulnerabilities, and opportunities for improvement in emergency preparedness efforts.
  • Stay informed about relevant regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and emerging trends in hospital emergency management.
  • Coordinate and facilitate emergency management training programs and exercises for hospital staff, ensuring that they are adequately prepared to respond to emergencies.
  • Develop educational materials, conduct presentations, and provide guidance to promote a culture of emergency preparedness throughout the organization.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources to integrate emergency management training into new employee orientation and ongoing staff development programs.
  • Responsible for periodic revision of, distribution of, and education around the Emergency Operations Plan.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for emergency response coordination during crisis situations.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, such as local emergency management agencies, law enforcement, and healthcare partners, to ensure a seamless and coordinated response.
  • Provide guidance and support to incident commanders and other key personnel during emergency response operations.
  • Monitor and assess the effectiveness of response efforts, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective measures as necessary.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal departments, community partners, and government agencies.
  • Coordinate the dissemination of emergency alerts, notifications, and other critical information to hospital staff, patients, and visitors.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records related to emergency management activities,
  • Prepare and present regular reports on emergency preparedness, response capabilities, and progress on achieving emergency management objectives.
  • Assist in the preparation of grant applications and funding requests to support emergency management initiatives.
