The Emergency Department Technician (EDT) performs a wide variety of patient care tasks utilizing a Patient Focused Care model. They follow standardized procedures prescribed in a clinical pathway, including activities related to direct patient care, diagnostic testing, patient transport and documentation, as directed by the RN. Essential job functions and responsibilities are as follows (but not limited to) Basic patient care, vital signs, EKG, phlebotomy, and communication. Teamwork is vital!

Requirements

  • Highschool Diploma or equivalent (but not necessarily required)
  • Active NA certificate or (2) years of experience in a role as a PCA, EDT, or CNA in acute or long term care.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - Active CPR certificate required
  • 3rd yr BSN student who was completed two clinical rotations
  • Medical Assistant or EMT Certification
  • General orientation at time of hire
  • Accucheck, CPR, Fire/Safety/Infection Control annually, OCL, Over-Dose Lavage, PERT, Restraint Protocol, 1:1 Observation Protocol
  • Health Care Provider CPR from American Heart Association or Professional Rescuer CPR by American Red Cross or other similar programs deemed appropriate by management
  • Successfully complete all training programs as determined by the Hospital
  • Successfully complete unit based competency package, plus unit specific items
