This position involves performing basic duties for patients of all ages in the Emergency Department, under the direct guidance of a Registered Nurse. The role requires effective communication with patients, staff, other departments, physicians, families, and visitors. Responsibilities include providing age-appropriate and population-specific patient care safely and efficiently to newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations. Key tasks may encompass phlebotomy, patient transport, obtaining vital signs, performing EKGs, splinting, and catheter placement. The technician is expected to uphold patient rights, respect cultural and religious diversity, and maintain a well-equipped and clean patient environment. This includes demonstrating proper equipment use, managing supplies and instruments, assisting with unit cleanliness, and preparing patient rooms. Accurate and timely documentation according to hospital policies is crucial. The role also requires utilizing the chain of command, maintaining composure during rapid changes in patient acuity or activity, recognizing personal limitations and seeking assistance, being flexible with scheduling, and promptly reporting defective equipment.
