The Emergency Department Technician-Phlebotomist works cooperatively with all members of the team of care treating Emergency Department patients. The ED Tech stocks supplies and performs clerical activities to assist nurses and physicians in meeting patient care needs. He/she actively communicates with the multidisciplinary healthcare team to identify and resolve basic patient care needs.

  • Provides direct patient care and supports multidisciplinary healthcare team in a safe, cost effective manner.
  • Performs basic patient care activities in accordance with departmental policy to maintain patient's safety, comfort and privacy.
  • Stocks and maintains supplies throughout the department.
  • Provides clerical support as needed.
  • Accurately logs messages and ensures that appropriate personnel are notified.
  • Assists in collection of patient's history and ensures confidentiality of records.
  • Actively participates in hour rounding as appropriate for the unit each shift.
  • Cleans and prepares rooms between procedures and restocking of room supplies as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • At least 6 months experience in an emergency department setting or 12 months experience as an ambulance attendant is preferred.
  • Nursing Students in their first semester or higher.
  • Phlebotomy certification required.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Current California EMT licensure is preferred.
