Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED required.
  • Successful completion of Licensed Practical Nurse course; Medical Assistant; Surgical Technician; Paramedic Program or EMT Program.
  • Basic knowledge regarding care of patients and operation of monitors.
  • Adapt to constant change inherent in healthcare.
  • Maintain good working relationships with the Medical Staff, Administration and other departmental personnel who are involved in the care of patients.
  • Exercise skills in nursing and technology.
  • Demonstrate a knowledge of supervisory techniques concerning the management of patients and personnel.
  • Certification in BLS according to level of training
  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care and assist with admissions, transfers, discharges, and orientation.
  • Support physicians and nurses during procedures such as catheter care, suctioning, dressing changes, chest tube insertions, EKGs, and suturing, within scope of training.
  • Perform venipuncture, IV access, and monitor vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, and pulse oximetry.
  • Respond effectively to emergencies and adhere to universal precautions and exposure policies.
  • Utilize restraints and protective mechanisms with proper documentation when necessary.
  • Participate in patient care planning, family education, and CPI processes.
  • Observe, report, and document changes in patient condition and care provided.
  • Assist with patient mobility including turning, lifting, positioning, and ambulation.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of patient areas, equipment, instruments, and supplies.
  • Complete age-specific and annual competency validations; maintain proficiency in patient care testing.
  • Ensure patient safety and comfort while following instructions from clinical leadership.
