The Emergency Department (ED) Technician plays a crucial role in the healthcare team at Winona Health, providing essential support in the Emergency Department and other areas as needed. This part-time position requires the technician to work between 32 to 64 hours per pay period, with shifts scheduled during the day and evening, specifically between 7 am - 3 pm or 3 pm - 11 pm. The technician is expected to work every other weekend and every third holiday, ensuring that patient care is consistently delivered with compassion and efficiency. Under the supervision of a professional nurse or an ED provider, the ED Technician is responsible for a variety of patient care tasks. These include rooming patients, assisting with personal care such as bathing and toileting, taking vital signs, and performing basic wound care. The technician also assists with more complex procedures, including setting up for pelvic examinations and laceration repairs, as well as managing IV fluid preparation and insertion. The role requires a proactive approach to patient comfort and safety, with the technician being vigilant about the needs of patients and responding promptly to any emergencies or codes. In addition to direct patient care, the ED Technician is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the department. This includes stocking supplies, cleaning equipment, and ensuring that all necessary items are readily available for patient care. The technician must also be available by pager to respond to various codes and emergencies, prioritizing patient care needs in all decisions. The role is integral to the smooth operation of the Emergency Department, requiring a blend of technical skills, compassion, and the ability to work under pressure.
