About The Position

Under direct supervision of the physician and/or designee, assists in examination and treatment of patients. The position involves performing within the scope and training of the EDT, and consistent with State/Federal regulations including EMTALA, HIPAA and other applicable regulations, including patient confidentiality and risk management. The role requires the provision of competent patient care for all ages, acuities, and conditions in the population the facility serves, ensuring age-specific care and responding to cultural needs of patients and families. The technician must communicate clearly and courteously with all members of the healthcare team, following lines of authority as appropriate. Proficiency in English for effective oral and written communication with co-workers and other healthcare team members is essential. Duties include completing tasks with regard to safety practices and policies, including infection control, workplace safety, and management of aggressive behaviors. The technician must demonstrate proficiency in the use of computers and telecommunications for documentation, tracking, and conveying information. Maintaining required certifications and continuing education requirements per department and facility standards is also necessary. The technician establishes priorities based on essential patient needs and available unit resources of time, personnel, equipment, and supplies, and documents patient care and unit activities in a timely, accurate, and concise manner. The role requires an awareness of and sensitivity to patient/family rights, cultural and ethical beliefs, and participation in ED staff meetings, in-services, and performance improvement activities. Establishing effective working relationships with members of the healthcare team, patients, and families is crucial. The technician must acknowledge staff rights and cultural and ethical beliefs, and requires dependable attendance to scheduled shifts and required staff development. Flexibility in the resolution of staffing issues is also important.

Requirements

  • Six (6) months of related experience as an Emergency Medical Technician, Certified Nursing Assistant, or Medical Assistant.
  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Phlebotomy Technician II Certificate (California) OR Phlebotomy Technician I Certificate (California).
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to use personal computer.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Willingness to work in a Labor Management Partnership environment.

Responsibilities

  • Applies monitoring devices and prepares patients for suturing.
  • Cleans ED gurneys and equipment.
  • Prepares requisitions for lab, imaging reports, and medical records.
  • Conducts pharmacy, lab, nutrition, and imaging pick-ups and deliveries.
  • Responsible for cleanliness and organization of patient care areas.
