About The Position

The Emergency Department Technician functions as a member of the emergency department patient care team, under supervision of the registered nurse. The emergency department technician I performs basic patient care procedures to provide for the care, comfort, and safety of patients, including, but not limited to, taking vital signs, assisting patients with activities of daily living, specimen collection, performing ECG's, post-mold application, crutch-walk teaching, spinal immobilization, basic wound care, and observation of patients for physical/emotional changes. Other duties include recording pertinent information in patient charts and communicating with other Patient Care Team members to ensure continuity of care.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • American Heart Associate BLS for healthcare provider CPR certification required.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant in the State of Work, OR EMT-B license in the State of Illinois required.

Nice To Haves

  • Six or more months experience in a clinical healthcare environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and through computer messaging.
  • Experience in supporting physical, emotional, and psycho-social needs of patients.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic patient care procedures under the supervision of a registered nurse.

  • Apply post-molds and teach crutch-walking techniques.
  • Implement spinal immobilization and provide basic wound care.
