About The Position

Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is the largest hospital in Missouri and is ranked as one of the nation's top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. The Emergency Department at Barnes-Jewish Hospital offers a dynamic, urban setting to serve a diverse community with a wide array of medical needs, specializing in rapid assessment and treatment of patients during acute illness and trauma. It is a Level I Trauma facility and a leader in disaster preparedness for the St. Louis region, where no two shifts or minutes are alike. The Emergency Department Patient Care Tech role provides direct patient care, supporting licensed professional nurses to ensure a safe environment for patients by reducing risk of harm. This position involves collecting vital information on patients and reporting changes to the nursing team, contributing to the overall assessment of each patient's condition.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • No Experience

Responsibilities

  • Implements direct patient care under the supervision of the nurse, promoting patient and family centered care in a healing environment.
  • Administers or assists patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), performs vital signs, intake & output, fall and pressure ulcer prevention measures, urinary catheter care, phlebotomy, or point of care testing as requested.
  • Collects clinical data and information on patients, and reports changes in patient status to the nurse.
  • Assists nurse with patient and family education.
  • Documents all patient care activities provided with correct medical terminology.
  • Acts as 1:1 patient safety sitter as necessary.
  • Ensures availability of supplies and equipment to meet each patient's needs.
  • Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance.
  • Participates in professional development.
