Position Overview

The Emergency Department Nurse Manager provides 24/7 operational and clinical leadership for the Emergency Unit. This role partners closely with physicians, hospital leadership, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe, efficient, high-quality emergency care while fostering a positive and engaged team culture.

Requirements

• Active Illinois RN license
• BSN required (MSN preferred)
• Minimum 5 years of clinical nursing experience
• At least 2-3 years of nursing leadership or management experience
• Strong communication, decision-making, and team-building skills

• Emergency Department leadership experience
• Experience with high-volume or high-acuity ER environments
• Proven success with staff engagement and quality initiatives

Responsibilities

• Directly lead, mentor, and develop emergency nursing staff
• Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and professional growth
• Support recruitment, onboarding, and retention of top ER talent
• Ensure delivery of evidence-based emergency care
• Monitor patient flow, throughput, and quality outcomes
• Lead quality improvement, patient safety, and performance initiatives
• Manage staffing, scheduling, and productivity
• Oversee department budget, supplies, and resource utilization
• Collaborate on strategic planning and departmental goals
• Partner with physicians, EMS, ancillary services, and leadership
• Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and safety standards
• Serve as a visible, hands-on leader in the department
