About The Position

Our skilled Emergency Department Medical Technicians are dedicated to providing rapid medical support, ensuring the highest level of patient care and safety in the most urgent and stressful situations. This position involves providing direct and indirect patient care, including phlebotomy, EKG, wound preparation, applying splints, obtaining specimens, and fitting and educating patients on durable medical equipment. The role requires working under the direction of a registered nurse (RN) and participating in quality improvement activities.

Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age.
• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent for positions utilizing i-STAT testing.
• 1+ years of experience in an acute healthcare setting.
• 1+ years of experience in basic arrhythmia and EKG interpretation.
• Licenses/Certifications: EMT, MDH, or NREMT certification upon hire or within 6 months if currently enrolled in an EMT education program; Active Certified Nursing Assistant Licensure on Minnesota Department of Health; BLS Tier 1 - Basic Life Support required.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent for positions not utilizing i-STAT testing.
• Experience in a fast-paced emergency department.

Responsibilities

• Independently performs patient care within the scope of position.
• Sets up and maintains medical equipment.
• Conducts phlebotomy, EKG, and wound preparation.
• Monitors blood glucose levels and performs CPR.
• Assists with patient grooming, hygiene, and comfort needs.
• Plans and organizes for medical procedures.
• Handles medication for procedural setup and assists in rooming and transporting patients.
• Maintains skin integrity and assists with ambulation and transfers.
• Participates in quality improvement activities and reports hazards.
• May assist with administrative duties and serve as a preceptor.
