About The Position

Emory University Hospital Midtown is seeking a Charge Nurse who has acquired broad experience in caring for patients, and has developed a sound understanding about the care of a particular patient population. The Charge Nurse plans, coordinates and directs the daily operations of a specific shift on a clinical unit, supervises staff, and facilitates communication with physicians and internal administrators to provide optimal patient and family-centered care. This role is recognized as a change agent and routinely leads efforts to strengthen organizational systems that support the mission, vision, and values of the department. The Charge Nurse demonstrates insight, judgment, and clinically sound risk-taking, and is adept at creative problem-solving, negotiating conflict, and collaborating with others.

Requirements

  • Minimum of Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
  • Two years experience as an RN with a minimum of two years of experience in the area of concentration.
  • Must have a valid, active unencumbered Nursing license or temporary permit approved by the Georgia Licensing Board.
  • BLS required and ACLS may be required in designated departments.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification preferred.
  • Completion of Enhancing your Communication HLC#6488.
  • Completion of formal preceptor training workshop.
  • Enrollment in LEAP course.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, coordinates and directs the daily operations of a specific shift on a clinical unit.
  • Supervises staff and facilitates communication with physicians and internal administrators.
  • Completes employee conference, risk management and unit management reports within specified time frames.
  • Ensures compliance and adherence with stated policies and procedures for the unit.
  • Role models delegation skills to colleagues and assists them in effective delegation.
  • Takes a leadership role in building and maintaining an environment which fosters open and candid communication.
  • Coordinates unit staffing to meet the needs of the department.
  • Challenges and shapes systems on the unit and hospital wide to achieve best possible outcomes.
  • Actively empowers and advocates for nurses.
  • Identifies, initiates, and collaborates to provide needed educational programs.
