The position involves working under the general direction of an assigned supervisor in the E-911 PSAP/Communications Service Center, Police Services. The role requires operating a computer-aided telephone, dispatch, and digital trunked simulcast radio system to provide emergency and routine dispatcher services to officers and the public. The dispatcher will collect and record information from calls, determine the order of response to calls, research geographical information, maintain the status of field units, and broadcast information to dispatch units. Additionally, the dispatcher will update various lists and files to secure required services and must attain and maintain State of Tennessee certification for public safety dispatchers.
