About The Position

The Emergency Communications Operations Supervisor at the City of Aurora is responsible for leading and supervising a team of emergency communications staff, ensuring the effective operation of the communications center. This role involves overseeing the dispatch of police, fire, and medical resources, while fostering a positive work environment that aligns with the organization's core values of integrity, respect, professionalism, and customer service. The supervisor will also participate in training, policy development, and quality assurance to maintain high service standards in public safety communications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
  • Three years of progressively responsible experience in a 911 Public Safety Communications Center.
  • One year of experience as a lead worker or trainer.
  • NCIC/CCIC Certification, NIMS 100, 200, 700 Certification, CPR and First Aid Certification.
  • Crisis Intervention and Emergency Medical Dispatcher (MPDS) certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in public safety telecommunications and dispatch center operations.
  • Knowledge of modern public safety telecommunications equipment and computer aided dispatch systems.
  • Skills in conflict resolution and team building.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and guidance to emergency communications staff.
  • Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, and review the work of assigned staff.
  • Participate in the selection and training of staff members.
  • Motivate and support team members, fostering a positive work environment.
  • Establish schedules and methods for providing public safety dispatch services.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and operating guidelines.
  • Operate and maintain communications center equipment and software.
  • Respond to citizen inquiries and complaints regarding telecommunications services.
  • Prepare and maintain records, reports, and logs related to operations.
  • Serve as a liaison with public safety agencies to address telecommunications needs.
