About The Position

The position involves participating as a frontline caregiver to patients in the Emergency Center. The role requires providing direct patient care and collecting physical, psychological, and social patient data under the direction of the Registered Nurse. The individual will also participate in the development of the patient care plan and assist in the timely, complete, and proper provision of patient care according to regulatory agency recommendations and Cape Cod Hospital Emergency Center policies, procedures, standards, and protocols. Additionally, the position entails following patient etiquette guidelines, being familiar with departmental equipment, and assisting in transporting patients safely within the department and facility.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
  • Successful completion of a Nursing Assistant Program, EMT Program, LPN Program, or at least one year of an accredited Nursing School Program.
  • Current Basic Life Support Certification.
  • Successful completion of Cape Cod Hospital written competency exam for Nursing Assistants.
  • Completion of an approved de-escalation Certification Course within 90 days from hire (offered within).
  • Must maintain current licensure or certification as an LPN, CNA, or EMT OR successfully pass the ER Tech exam with a score of 80% or higher every 2 years.

Responsibilities

  • Participates as a frontline caregiver to patients in the Emergency Center.
  • Provides direct patient care and collects physical, psychological, and social patient data under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
  • Participates in the development of the patient care plan under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
  • Assists in the timely, complete, and proper provision of patient care as established through regulatory agency recommendations and standards as well as Cape Cod Hospital Emergency Center policies, procedures, standards, and protocols.
  • Follows patient etiquette guidelines as written in Emergency Department policy.
  • Is familiar with equipment in the department and the location of all items.
  • Assists in transporting patients within the department as well as within the facility in accordance with current safety practices.
  • Assesses personal and learning development needs. Maintains documentation of current and ongoing professional development activities. Regularly updates knowledge of techniques and regulations appropriate to the ages of the patients served.
  • Orients other ER Techs to the unit as assigned by educators/managers.
  • Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers, and co-workers.
  • Performs other work-related tasks and activities as assigned or requested by manager.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in Computerized Nursing Informatics (information systems).
  • Assists in orientation of other personnel to the unit under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
