Our Wilmington Emergency Department houses a Level III Trauma Center. We seek an Emergency Care Technician to care for patients in our Emergency Department. Work in an Emergency Department with a helipad with aero-medical transport capabilities! The Emergency Department is a participating trauma hospital in the Delaware Trauma System. About this Position Under nursing, the Emergency Care Tech's primary function is to perform hygiene/comfort measures and selected nursing and phlebotomy procedures for patients under the supervision and direction of the professional nurse. Acquiring vital signs and performing EKG's are also required. We seek someone who can demonstrate the skills and knowledge necessary to provide care appropriate to neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult & geriatric patients. Should demonstrate the ability to obtain information and identify patient needs and provide care as needed. Hours: This is a Full-Time Flex position / 72 hours per bi-weekly pay The shift will be 7pm-7am There is a weekend rotation (every other weekend) and a holiday rotation requirement (1 summer holiday and 1 winter holiday)

Requirements

  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS)
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Previous work experience or completion of Patient Care Technician and/or Phlebotomist programs.

Responsibilities

  • Performs assigned nursing procedures that pertain to the comfort and well-being of patients.
  • Responds to patient crisis situations and initiates interventions within the scope of responsibilities and notifies RN.
  • Performs venipuncture and finger sticks on patients, following all standard laboratory safety policies.
  • Performs essential unit specific tasks under the direction of RN, e.g. EKGs, height and weight measurements
  • Reviews orders placed for patient testing and sends lab specimens using PowerChart system.
