About The Position

We are a specialized team within the Common Hardware Group, focusing on EMC design and test. Our team collaborates closely with cross-functional groups such as hardware mechanical and power engineering to ensure Cisco products comply with global EMC standards. We prioritize practical engineering solutions, foster strong collaboration, and embrace continuous learning in a dynamic, high-impact environment. Our ultimate mission is to embed EMC robustness into product designs from the very beginning, enabling Cisco to deliver reliable, high-quality products to market with efficiency and confidence. By proactively integrating EMC considerations early in the development cycle, we help safeguard product performance and compliance, supporting Cisco’s commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction. In this role, the EMC Engineer will be responsible for collaborating closely with multiple Business Unit (BU) hardware design teams to design, test and qualify their products to be compliant with the EMC regulatory requirements. You will work with EMC design engineers, EMC test engineers, and various cross-functional disciplines (Mechanical, Power, etc.) during the design and verification cycles. Understand hardware design constraints and tradeoffs and find efficient solutions where feasible. Diagnose and troubleshoot EMI issues and provide mitigation recommendations to hardware, mechanical and other cross-functional team. Should be able to work independently on several projects concurrently and also be to collaborate and work in a team environment.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree with 3 years of hands-on EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) testing and trouble-shooting experience.
  • Experience with test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, LISN’s, network analyzers, EM probes, etc.
  • Knowledge of EMC design and Electromagnetic, Microwave, Antenna and Circuit Theory, Signal & Power Integrity concepts and High-Speed design principles.

Nice To Haves

  • Strongly prefer experience with traffic generators like IXIA and configuring EUT.
  • Experience reviewing Schematics, PCB layout and Mechanical designs for EMC.
  • Experience developing and/or providing guidance to electrical and mechanical design teams compliance.
  • Knowledge of international standards and procedures related to obtaining worldwide product certifications (e.g. FCC, CISPR, ICES, VCCI, etc.).
  • Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
