About The Position

Tesla is seeking a Sr. EMC Design Engineer, Simulation, to work on sophisticated automotive and robotic electronic products for mass production. This role will support product design with focus on modeling, simulation, debugging, and validation testing for Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) for current and next generation Tesla products. Collaborate with design teams in all phases of product design, from the concept and architecture definition, development, validation testing, and introduction into production Perform in depth modeling and simulations like 2D & 3D as a tool for EMC design analysis and troubleshooting on aspects of RF current distribution, cavity resonance, shielding, characteristic impedance, near field and far field Provide design inputs and guidance in the areas of schematic and circuit board layout design for EMC, product packaging and assembly, and cable design for RF shielding with electromagnetics simulation analysis Be the EMC subject matter expert for cross-functional teams on EMC product risk assessment reviews, EMC impact from electronic modules and test results Define specific EMC design guidelines and requirements applicable to schematic, PCB layout, electronic module assembly, and vehicle level integration Provide technical training to cross-functional as subject matter expert on design aspects for EMC Define and lead design of experiments for simulation and troubleshooting EMC Emissions and Immunity issues Perform EMC testing to verify simulation results and apply impact assessment to satisfy Tesla EMC specification and applicable regulatory requirements Use EMC test setups for emissions and immunity per test methods such as CISPR25, ISO-11452-2, -4, ISO-7637-2, -3, ISO-10605, IEC 61000-4-2, -3, -4, -6

Requirements

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or the equivalent in experience
  • 5+ years of experience in EMC design
  • Minimum 2 years of experience using 2D/3D Electromagnetic simulation tools like HFSS, CST, FEKO, etc. Simulation experience on cavity structures, PCBA, shielding, cable structures
  • Familiar with 3D CAD tools and Mesh tools, such as Hypermesh and circuit simulation tools, such as Ltspice, Simplis, ADS
  • Familiar with coding language, such as Matlab, Python, etc.
  • Working knowledge reading analog and digital electronics circuit schematics
  • Solid understanding of Electromagnetic theory applied to Electrical and mechanical design from PCBA to full electronic assembly, and vehicle level for aspects like resonances, power device switching behavior, high speed, filtering, non-ideal behavior from electrical structures
  • Working knowledge on instruments required for EMC testing such as spectrum analyzer, VNA, oscilloscope, signal generator, antenna, RF coupling clamp, near field probe, ESD simulator, etc.
  • Experience on performing EMC testing related to emissions and immunity such as CISPR25, ISO-11452-2, -4, ISO-7637-2, -3, ISO-10605, IEC 61000-4-2, -3, -4, -6
  • Familiar with communication protocols like CAN, LIN, Ethernet, USB

Responsibilities
