Stok is seeking a Data Center Structural Engineer to join our Carbon Services Team. The role will be embedded within a Hyperscaler Data Center client of Stok’s with 32 - 36 hours/week dedicated to that one project. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering, Architecture, Sustainability, or Environmental Science; Master's degree preferred
  • 5–10 years of relevant experience in structural engineering, embodied carbon, or sustainability within large-scale construction — data center experience a strong plus
  • Direct experience in structural and/or foundation systems design with a demonstrated focus on carbon footprint reduction in concrete and steel
  • Familiarity with LCA software (e.g., One Click LCA, Tally) and the ability to interpret Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs)
  • Knowledge of Construction Specification Institute (CSI) format
  • Working knowledge of environmental regulations as they pertain to construction sites (air, water, waste)
  • Strong analytical and data interpretation skills with the ability to communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Excellent project management skills with demonstrated ability to manage cross-functional stakeholder groups
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure preferred
  • A passion for climate action and the drive to make measurable impact at scale

Responsibilities

  • Lead the comprehensive updating of Construction Specifications to ensure low-GHG solutions are mandated, adopted, and executable across global design and construction activities.
  • Develop a data-driven roadmap for decarbonizing equipment specifications, utilizing Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) data and supplier-specific Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs).
  • Leverage global research, LCA hotspots in heavy construction (e.g., concrete, steel), and industry best practices to prioritize specification updates.
  • Establish and track Specification Adoption Metrics to quantify the GHG performance of projects against updated standards.
  • Facilitate Sustainability Page Turns — a collaborative review process — to ensure requirements are localized, technically feasible, and optimized for carbon considerations without compromising structural integrity.
  • Perform formal assessments of project constraints, market feasibility, and regional material availability to ensure sustainability goals align with structural requirements.
  • Manage the end-to-end process of specification drafting, Technical Assistance (TA) memos, and cross-functional communication regarding revisions.
  • Act as an embedded consultant on behalf of the client, bridging high-level Net Zero goals with ground-level construction execution.
  • Manage multiple workstreams at varying stages of the specification development and implementation process.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with diverse internal and external stakeholders, translating complex carbon data into actionable engineering requirements.
