The Sensors Division within STR focuses on the development and analysis of advanced sensor systems in the RF, acoustic, and electro-optical domains. This includes the design and development of novel sensors and advanced information processing techniques from ideation to prototype implementations. The Undersea Systems and Acoustics (USA) Group develops and delivers advanced undersea sensor and signal processing systems related to intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) and counter-ISR applications.

  • Design, develop, and optimize real-time acoustic signal processing algorithms
  • Implement software on various hardware platforms, including low-SWAP processors, ARM processors, and server-class processors
  • Utilize development containers, git repositories, and Jira for efficient task management and collaboration
  • Ensure software meets stringent real-time and high-fidelity requirements
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, integrate, and validate software on target hardware for distributed undersea systems
  • Strong experience in developing software for embedded systems, particularly on ARM processors and DSP boards
  • Proven ability to design and implement real-time deterministic algorithms for acoustic signal processing

  • Experience with LINUX operating systems, particularly in embedded environments
  • Familiarity with development containers, version control systems (git), and task management tools (Jira)
  • Solid understanding of acoustic signal processing principles and techniques
  • Ability to optimize software for performance and resource constraints on low-SWAP processors
  • Skilled in using shell commands for debugging, monitoring system resources, managing processes, logging system activities, scripting routines, and debugging in Linux-based operating systems
  • Proficiency with I2C, UART, and SPI interfaces for communication with hardware components
  • Strong team player with excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset
  • Strong Mathematical, troubleshooting, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to obtain a Top Secret (TS) Security Clearance, and eligible to support special access programs, for which U.S citizenship is needed by the U.S government
  • BS + 5 years' relevant experience, MS + 3 years, or PhD in a related field
  • Proficiency in Mission Oriented Operating Suite Interval Programming (MOOS-IvP) and Laboratory for Autonomous Marine Sensing Systems (LAMSS) use with embedded systems
