About The Position

Established in 1964 as the first public university in southeast Florida, Florida Atlantic University serves 30,000 undergraduate and graduate students on six campuses along Florida's beautiful southeast coast in Broward, Palm Beach, and St. Lucie counties. The Florida Atlantic University Libraries have prioritized working collaboratively with an R1 campus community on a Top 100 research initiative that includes a highly library-engaged campus and community environment. Florida Atlantic Libraries house approximately 3.7 million items and provide access to over 80,000 electronic journals, nearly 500 databases, and a growing collection of e-books and streaming videos. The Libraries house many distinctive collections, including artists’ books, sound recordings, print music, rare books and manuscripts, and University Archives. The Digital Initiatives and Scholarship Unit provides the Research Hub learning space for graduate students, post-docs, doctoral students, researchers, visiting scholars, and community users. In addition, this unit creates online collections from unique materials held in Special Collections and University Archives, serving as the University's repository for intellectual output generated on campus including Florida Atlantic University created journals and curated displays. Reporting directly to the Assistant Dean for Access, Research, and Learning Services, with input from the College of Nursing, this role is uniquely positioned to advance the research mission of the Florida Atlantic Libraries as an embedded librarian in the College of Nursing. In addition to nursing collection development, liaison, and library instruction duties for the College of Nursing, the position will serve as a co-author regarding systematic reviews, research partner, and evidence-based practice expert, and lead the management of the College’s historical legacy of the Caring Archives, which is housed in the College of Nursing. The successful candidate will have a unique combination of health sciences library expertise, archival management skills, and research collaboration experience. This role requires proficiency in library instruction, collection development, and library liaison responsibilities. In addition, this position requires experience in literature searching, evidence synthesis, and academic publishing. The Embedded Librarian for Nursing will also facilitate the preservation of the College of Nursing’s historical records and artifacts while fostering a deeper connection between the College of Nursing and the Libraries. Requirements

  • ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent.
  • Minimum of four years of experience emphasizing health sciences services and research support for students, faculty, and staff as well as to the broader health sciences community.
  • Demonstrates experience in designing and delivering instructional sessions on advanced literature search strategies, critical appraisal, and research methods for graduate and doctoral students.
  • Demonstrates experience in health sciences or academic library services, particularly supporting nursing, health professions, or biomedical research.
  • Knowledge of systematic reviews, evidence synthesis methods, and publication standards.
  • Extensive knowledge of nursing and health sciences databases such as CINAHL, PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science.
  • Demonstrates ability to work independently and collaboratively as a team member and team leader where consultation, flexibility, creativity, collaboration, and cooperation are essential.
  • Demonstrates strong organization skills and excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Experience in tracking H-index, citation counts, and alternative metrics (Altmetric scores).
  • Knowledge of developing faculty research profiles for inclusion in institutional repositories, faculty directories, and public research platforms.
  • Experience in database tracking for library support services usage and faculty publications for report purposes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide group, one-on-one, distance learning, and hybrid instruction for courses, workshops, and programs.
  • Perform collection development responsibilities in nursing and related areas.
  • Serve as the academic liaison for the College of Nursing, and participate in Libraries’ liaison program including development and review of research guides.
  • Develop subject/discipline promotional materials that effectively communicate the Libraries’ nursing collections and other resources by utilizing research guides, online tutorials, and other media.
  • Collaborate with faculty and students to conduct systematic, scoping, and integrative reviews, including developing search strategies and managing references.
  • Assist in writing methods, results, and discussion sections of systematic reviews or evidence syntheses.
  • Provide guidance in creating PRISMA flow diagrams, developing inclusion/exclusion criteria, and refining search results.
  • Deliver instruction and support for citation management tools such as EndNote, Zotero, and Mendeley.
  • Partner with research faculty to ensure robust methodology and rigorous publishing reporting standards.
  • Offer tailored literature research consultations to support graduate students working on theses, dissertations, and capstone projects.
  • Facilitate faculty and student education on academic publishing, OERs, avoiding predatory journals, and increasing research impact.
  • Provide literature reviews and citation support for faculty submitting research grants.
  • Participate in post-award activities, including dissemination of findings, co-authoring research reports, and promoting research visibility.
  • Collaborate with grant-funded projects involving archival preservation and research related to the history of the College of Nursing partnering with the Florida Atlantic Libraries.
  • Manage, with College of Nursing assistance, the Caring Archives as a critical historical and research resource located in the College of Nursing.
  • Implement professional archiving procedures for accessioning, preserving, and cataloging materials related to the College’s history and legacy.
  • Participate in co-authoring scholarly publications through systematic reviews for evidence-based practice papers, and original research manuscripts partnering with nursing faculty.
  • Collaborate with faculty in increasing research impact through tracking citation metrics, assisting with H-index evaluations, and guiding appropriate journal selection.
  • Develop and facilitate evidence synthesis services (systematic reviews, scoping reviews, integrative reviews) for faculty-led research projects.
  • Provide hands-on instruction to graduate students in manuscript preparation, literature searching, and research dissemination.
  • Guide faculty in the responsible use of open-access publishing, copyright, and author rights.
  • Maintain knowledge of nursing and health sciences-specific databases, including CINAHL, PubMed, Scopus, SciVal, and Web of Science.
  • Participate in outreach and engagement services to promote faculty, student, and staff engagement with Open Educational Resources, Scholarly Publishing, and Open Pedagogy and Digital Commons initiatives.
  • Support the Libraries’ Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and other strategic initiatives.
  • Support efforts to maintain R1 and Top 100 status for the University.
  • Develop an annual professional development plan.
  • Investigate opportunities to carry out, publish, and present original scholarship, research, and scholarly projects related to the area of expertise or responsibility.
  • Serve on appropriate Libraries, University, regional, state or national committees including professional committees, and actively participate in Libraries’ and campus faculty governance.
  • Serve on appropriate College of Nursing committees.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
