About The Position

As an Embedded Engineer I at Honeywell Aerospace, you will be part of our Lighting Center of Excellence (COE) within the Control Systems group, contributing to the development of embedded systems for innovative aerospace lighting solutions. You will work closely with senior engineers to design, implement, and test embedded software while supporting integration with advanced hardware components. You will report directly to our Sr. Design Engineering Manager and work out of our Urbana, OH location on a Hybrid work schedule. In this role, you will impact the development of cutting-edge aerospace technologies that enhance the safety, efficiency, and performance of aircraft systems worldwide. Requirements

  • 1+ years of experience (academic, internship, or industry) in embedded software development using C and/or C++.
  • Strong understanding of embedded systems and hardware-software integration.
  • Experience with software development tools and version control systems (e.g., GIT, Bitbucket).
  • Familiarity with real-time operating systems (RTOS) or bare metal development.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience with aerospace software applications and standards (e.g., DO-178C compliance).
  • Exposure to Ethernet communication protocols, camera interface solutions, and control algorithms for BLDC motor systems.
  • Familiarity with networked and IoT embedded solutions, including wireless and BLE systems.
  • Experience or coursework related to: Radar software development and mmWave Radar technologies Camera protocols and imaging hardware Embedded Linux, FreeRTOS, TIRTOS
  • Basic knowledge of Python.
  • Familiarity with Matlab/Simulink for simulation/modeling.
  • Experience with IDEs such as Code Composer Studio or Eclipse-based environments.Exposure to TI's TMS320F2xxxx processors.
  • Some experience or interest in web development for interface/control panels.
  • Strong analytical skills, adaptability, and passion for innovation in embedded systems.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design and development of embedded software using C, with a focus on bare metal systems and real-time operating systems (RTOS) such as Embedded Linux, TIRTOS, and FreeRTOS.
  • Support implementation of control algorithms for BLDC motor systems and development of Ethernet communication protocols.
  • Participate in code reviews, software requirement analysis, and reverse engineering of existing embedded C code under senior engineer guidance.
  • Assist in testing and system integration, working onsite in Urbana, OH to support hardware/software bring-up.
  • Contribute to camera and network interface solutions, including integration of wireless, BLE, and IoT embedded systems.
  • Help maintain documentation compliant with DO-178C standards and collaborate with Honeywell Product Development & Quality Assurance (PDQA) to ensure compliance.
