About The Position

Operating under the Office of the Chief Judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County, the Adult Probation Department administers a wide range of programs covering both standard and specialized probation supervision and pretrial and presentence services. Through its programs, the Adult Probation Department provides the court with pertinent information at many stages of the criminal justice process, enhances public safety, compensates victims of crime and holds offenders accountable while affording them opportunities to make positive changes in their lives. The majority of Adult Probation Department resources are dedicated to probation supervision, while residing in the community. Department probation officers assist individuals in complying with their conditions of supervision through guidance, surveillance and referrals to service providers for treatment, education and employment services.

Requirements

  • Establish residency in the state of Illinois within six months of employment.
  • Possess a minimum of a high school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Ability to master various computer systems utilized by Adult Probation Department as well as GPS equipment.
  • Possess the ability to complete data entry in accordance with assigned work.
  • Exhibit an attentiveness to detail.
  • Speak and write English proficiently, utilizing proper grammar, sentence structure and spelling.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to issues of confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Possess excellent filing, organizational and oral and written communication skills.
  • Maintains stability under pressure or opposition.
  • Ability to perform a variety of tasks, often changing assignments on short notice.
  • Have the ability to establish priorities and a course of action for handling multiple tasks.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment within prescribed limits and complete miscellaneous projects and problem solving.
  • Possess the ability to work independently.
  • Be professional in appearance, attitude and affect.
  • Be available to work various shifts, weekends and holidays.
  • Possess the ability to complete all duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Complete data entry and is proficient with both the EM/ GPS vendor’s software and the case management system.
  • Monitor offenders on EM/GPS following department protocol.
  • Communicate with vendors, offenders, victims, APD staff and other outside agencies to ensure compliance of policy and procedure.
  • Maintain equipment, including but not limited to keeping inventory, cleaning, and assembling equipment.
  • Prepare court documentation.
  • Input and retrieve information from the case management system.
  • Provide assistance to other support personnel.
  • Back up other support areas such as intake, compact, warrants, VOP’s, reception, records, Deputy Chief Secretary.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
  • Meet all annual training requirements as assigned.
