About The Position

The Mental Health Technician in the Psychiatric Emergency Program (PEP) is responsible for providing direct care and maintaining a therapeutic environment for patients experiencing behavioral crises. This role involves working under the supervision of the RN Charge Nurse and participating in various therapeutic activities to support patient well-being and safety.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree
  • Certification in Behavioral Sciences program or equivalent coursework required
  • 6 months experience in a behavioral health setting preferred
  • Aggression de-escalation training approved by EHS

Responsibilities

  • Participates in conversation, recreational activities, and basic living activities
  • Sets limits, confronts counterproductive behavior, and reassures and orients patients
  • Performs safety checks and assists in managing therapeutic milieu
  • Collaborates with other unit personnel with crisis intervention techniques
  • Facilitates and leads community meetings and groups
