About The Position

The Early Language and Literacy Initiative (ELLI) is a high-quality, interdisciplinary approach to early childhood education designed to close the early learning achievement gap by embedding developmentally appropriate language and literacy into STEAM content. ELLI educators provide comprehensive, play-based learning experiences for children from birth to age 5. These educators facilitate the curriculum while maintaining frequent contact with parents and families. They are responsible for developing cohesive teaching teams, coordinating curriculum, and managing classroom operations to ensure a safe and stimulating environment. Our Educators, who are curious, creative, and enthusiastic lifelong learners, are supported by ongoing professional development, which is paid for by ELLI. We offer various opportunities to meet the needs of staff, including positions located at Stepping Stones Museum, Norwalk Public Schools, and Fairfield University, as well as school year and year-round positions.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or higher in early childhood education or a four (4) year degree in a related field with at least twelve (12) credits in child development or early childhood education.
  • Minimum one (1) year experience of professional childcare experience.
  • Working knowledge of Connecticut Early Learning and Development Standards, or comparable standards framework.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office; proven ability to learn new systems and software.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manages daily operations of the classroom, including staff and children, in compliance with NAEYC, state, and local laws and regulations, adhering to all policies and procedures.
  • Leads planning and daily implementation of ELLI-aligned immersive learning experiences; follows structured curriculum; embraces children's capabilities.
  • Supervises classroom staff, supports their professional growth by sharing materials and information, and models effective strategies.
  • Ensures the health and safety of children under their active supervision at all times.
  • Engages families in their children's learning outcomes by welcoming and connecting through conferences, workshops, parent events, and daily interactions while encouraging supportive relationships.
