About The Position

The part-time ELL Professional Tutor will provide English Language Learner (ELL) support to non-English speaking students. This individual will work in the College's One Stop Tutoring Center and, when needed, provide in-class support. The ELL Professional Tutor will collaborate with faculty and staff to assist students in improving their English language skills to support academic success and engagement. This position will report to the point of contact for the Writer's Lounge.

Requirements

• 3-5 years of teaching or tutoring experience
• Certification in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) or Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA)
• English language fluency
• Strong communication skills
• Demonstrated cultural competence

• Experience working in a higher education setting
• Familiarity with language acquisition strategies and assessment tools
• Experience supporting students in both individual and group settings
• Bilingual or multilingual abilities

Responsibilities

• Provide academic support to ELL students in the One Stop Tutoring Center, including walk-ins and faculty/staff referrals
• Assist faculty by offering in-class language support when appropriate
• Develop and adapt tutoring strategies based on student language proficiency levels
• Help students build vocabulary, comprehension, and communication skills needed for coursework
• Maintain tutoring session records and contribute to student progress tracking
