About The Position

This position is supported through building Title I funds and is subject to availability of these fund TITLE: ELL Associate POSTION TYPE: ASOC HIRING SPECIFICATIONS: Required: High school diploma, HiSET , or G.E.D. Bilingual or Multilingual Completion of required district provided associate training within the first year of employment Desired: Bachelor’s degree in education , student services, world language or related field. Experience working with children and families with a refugee or immigrant background. Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Knowledge of working with the English Language Learners. Knowledge of second language acquisition and second language instruction program. Competency working in a culturally diverse environment or the willingness to acquire these skills BASIC FUNCTION: Support language acquisition of English Language Learners by helping prepare for materials and assist student academically. This position requires continuous use of independent judgment . The essential functions as shown below represent only the key areas of responsibility; specific position requirements will vary depending on the needs of the Teaching & Learning department. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Assist students in the ELL program in the development of English language in all domains. Assist in maintaining a safe and orderly instructional environment. Supervise lunchroom, playground, halls, classroom, and other assigned areas. Clarify and reinforce teacher directions. Assist with instruction in the community setting as . Assist in individual or group activities under the teacher’s supervision. Assist ELL in interpreting and following the direction of the teacher. Reinforce skills the teacher has taught. Assist with parent/teacher conferences. Assist with implementing building level initiatives Attend required professional development on designated dates throughout the school year ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (for every DMPS position): Attend work on a prompt and regular basis. Maintain confidentiality. Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees.
