About The Position

The position is accountable for providing direct and customized academic writing, reading, listening, and speaking assistance to the ELL student population enrolled at Maria College. Additionally, the position functions within an administrative capacity by helping with data tracking, drafting reports, scheduling, and other clerical duties. Finally, the position is responsible for implementation of supplemental academic programming designed specifically to bolster student success for ELL students.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in ESOL, Education or related field and/or one of the following certifications: TESOL, TOEFL, TEFL, TSEL, CELTA, DELTA, or TKT.
  • At least two years' experience with academic tutoring is required.
  • Experience in working with diverse and/or underrepresented student populations.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in ESOL, Education or related field with one of the following certifications: TESOL, TOEFL, TEFL, TSEL, CELTA, DELTA, or TKT.
  • 3-5 years' experience with academic tutoring.
  • Prior teaching experience in higher education.
  • Experience in working with immigrant and refugee populations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist and facilitate the academic success of Maria College students through one-on-one and group tutoring, specifically as it relates to English Language development, comprehension, and usage.
  • Assist in developing and implementing supplemental academic programming aimed at bolstering the student comprehension of classroom material related to reading comprehension and writing as well as preparation for examinations crucial to program advancement.
  • Consult and coordinate with faculty to provide targeted support to ELL learners identified as at-risk for non-completion.
  • Conduct in-class presentations and participate in recruitment events, as assigned.
  • Keep appropriate documentation and records consistent with Student Affairs and College procedures.
  • Participate in the Department of Student Affairs by attending meetings, events, contributing to the development of initiatives, communication, and department-wide activities.
  • Carry out other assigned duties to Student Affairs as required, and commensurate with the level of the position.

Benefits

  • $25.00 per hour
  • Up to 20 hours per week
  • Varying schedule throughout the week, including some evening and weekend work.
