About The Position

This position is responsible for determining eligibility for various Public Assistance programs, including Cash Programs, Emergency Programs, Food Support, and Health Care Programs. The role involves reviewing cases, ensuring accurate documentation, and providing support and advocacy for clients. Work is primarily conducted in an office setting, and the position may be used to fill future full-time and part-time vacancies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED and four years of related work experience, OR
  • High school diploma/GED plus one or more years of post-secondary education and two years of related work experience, OR
  • An Associate's degree or higher in a relevant field.
  • Related work experience must involve health and human services, program eligibility, or public assistance benefits.
  • Reliable means of transportation for work responsibilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Recent MAXIS/METS system experience.
  • Financial Worker/Eligibility Specialist experience.
  • Bilingual abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately code MMIS billing systems with residents' health care eligibility information.
  • Determine eligibility through processing applications, face-to-face interviews, and asset assessments for all programs in accordance with guidelines.
  • Evaluate ongoing case eligibility and process household changes as reported or discovered.
  • Explain and interpret policies, rules, and procedures for clients and groups; provide orientation overviews and explain client rights and responsibilities.
  • Coordinate services and collaborate with internal and external providers.
  • Maintain current knowledge of policies for all programs and share that knowledge with residents and program participants.
  • Enroll participants in health plans, including METS/Health Care Exchange; determine cost-effectiveness of employer-offered health insurance.
  • Serve as a client advocate and investigate and resolve problems related to managed care.
  • Utilize multiple computer programs to access and provide benefit information and ensure accurate interfaces and referrals.
  • Gather necessary medical documentation to allow the state to make disability determinations.
  • Prepare and participate in appeals processes; take appropriate action based on appeal decisions.
  • Operate within laws governing Data Privacy and Freedom of Information.
  • Work assigned hours and shifts, beginning and ending work on time.
