About The Position

The Elevator Technician performs journeyman level work in the elevator maintenance trade involving the troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of all electrical and mechanical operations of elevators and lifts of various types. Makes hydraulic and electrical driven upgrades, redesigning old equipment that can't be repaired due to obsolete parts. Works with contractors to schedule major repairs and shutdowns. Inspects all work performed by outside contractors. Must be able to be on call, be accessible by phone when on call, and report to work within one hour of being called. Must work shift work and overtime as scheduled, sometimes with short or no notice.

Requirements

  • National Association of Elevator Contractors (NAEC) Certified Elevator Technician (CET); OR high school diploma or GED and four (4) years of experience in the troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of all electrical and mechanical operations of elevators and lifts, including performing hydraulic and electrically driven elevator upgrades and redesigning old equipment that cannot be repaired due to obsolete parts.
  • If not a CET at the time of employment, must successfully complete the NAEC CET application and become CET certified within two (2) years of employment.
  • Within six (6) months of becoming a CET, must become a Certified Elevator Technician-Supervisor (CET-S).
  • Must complete required Continuing Education Units each year to maintain/renew CET license.
  • Must be licensed by the State of Alabama as an Elevator Mechanic or able to obtain within six (6) months of date of hire.
  • Must have valid U.S. driver's license.
  • Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies.
  • Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.
  • Final candidates must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Elevator Technician (CET) license issued by National Association of Elevator Contractors.
