The Elevator Mechanic position at the University of Washington involves performing journey-level work on various vertical transportation equipment, including elevators, escalators, and hoists.   • Perform journey-level work maintaining, servicing, troubleshooting, and repairing hydraulic elevators, traction elevators, dumbwaiters, escalators, wheelchair lifts, and other conveyances.
  • Repair or replace conveyance parts, including electrical and electronic components.
  • Maintain a preventive maintenance program on conveyance equipment and complete documentation requirements.
  • Inspect, adjust, and maintain hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical components in various conveyances.
  • Troubleshoot and repair problems with conveyances efficiently.
  • Perform annual and quarterly inspections and tests of elevators and escalators as required by Labor and Industries.
  • Respond to trouble calls and emergencies to minimize disruptions and ensure safety.
  • Read and interpret conveyance schematics to troubleshoot and maintain systems.
  • Inspect contractors' work for compliance with campus specifications.
  • Identify and order necessary parts for repairs.
  • Communicate with campus clientele regarding the status of elevator problems and repairs.
  • Work collaboratively with other elevator mechanics to resolve issues.
  • Perform material handling, rigging, and hoisting as needed.
  • Operate a variety of hand tools, power tools, and test equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with local standards and codes, maintaining records of work performed.
  • Drive service vehicle as needed and attend required meetings and training.
  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship as an elevator mechanic or full journey status as an elevator mechanic in a union or four years' applicable work experience.
  • Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license may be required.
  • Have and maintain a class 01 or class 08 Elevator Mechanic License per WAC 296-96-00910.
  • Experience and knowledge working with Washington State safety rules and regulations, WAC 296- Chapter 96 elevator mechanics safety rules, and OSHA requirements.
  • Five or more years' experience as an elevator service mechanic with a variety of elevators.
  • Experience working independently for a licensed elevator contractor or public agency.
  • Certificate of completion of an elevator mechanic's apprenticeship program.
  • Education credits in the applicable license category (WAC 296-96-000910).
