About The Position

The Elevator Inspector position at the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District involves ensuring that vertical transportation systems, such as elevators and escalators, comply with safety and regulatory standards. The role includes conducting inspections, reporting violations, and collaborating with contractors and builders to ensure adherence to codes and regulations. The inspector will also be responsible for generating reports, attending continuing education, and maintaining knowledge of relevant safety codes.

Requirements

  • Qualified Elevator Inspector (QEI) certification required.
  • Certified Elevator Inspector (CEI) License required.
  • At least one year of elevator inspection work for an enforcing authority required.
  • Two years of college in a discipline related to Elevator Inspection engineering preferred.
  • Proficient knowledge of applicable state and national safety codes for elevators and similar equipment.
  • Strong understanding of the construction and operation of elevators, escalators, and similar equipment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Elevator Inspector Supervisor (CEIS) Certification preferred.
  • Experience with Accela Automation and Bluebeam Revu preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform field inspections of vertical transportation conveyances to assess safety, functionality, and compliance.
  • Report any violations and perform re-inspections to ensure cited violations have been corrected.
  • Review plans and specifications for verification of compliance with codes.
  • Compile reports and issue notices regarding plans, specifications, installations, and equipment found not in compliance with the rules and regulations.
  • Inspect vertical transportation conveyances for new construction, temporary use, and alterations of equipment.
  • Witness periodic tests of vertical transportation conveyances as required by adopted codes and standards.
  • Conduct thorough investigations of incidents and determine potential equipment contributions.
  • Verify the safety of conveyance equipment for post-incident use and generate reports of findings.
  • Stay updated on codes and regulations in support of inspections and respond to code-related inquiries.
  • Attend continuing education classes as required.
  • Compile inspection reports to document conformance of each conveyance.
  • Communicate with contractors, builders, and owners regarding elevator code requirements, violations, and requirements for correction.
