About The Position

Park County School District 6 Para-Educator - Title I $18.90 - $31.90 Purpose Statement: The job of Para-Educator - Title I is done for the purpose/s of assisting, tutoring, and training Title I- identified students in a classroom or similar learning situation and performing classroom clerical tasks in support of the instructional process. This job reports to: Building Principal, Title I Teacher Essential Functions Administers assessments in small groups or one-on-one in a separate testing area for the purpose of accommodating student needs. Advocates for students at all times for the purpose of ensuring each student's ability to be successful. Assists identified students, under the general direction of the teacher, (e.g. explain words, read to students, help with arts and crafts, monitor individual assignments,take class notes, scribe, restate information, assist with student's electronic devices, etc.) for the purpose of providing an opportunity for students to participate actively in classroom activities. Attends meetings as requested (e.g. inservice training, workshops, IEP's, etc.) for the purpose of receiving and/or conveying information. Collaborates with teachers and other instructional assistants for the purpose of providing efficient, appropriate help to students. Confers with teacher/s for the purpose of assisting in evaluating student progress and/or implementing intervention objectives. Enters data into the appropriate system (e.g. time and effort log, data warehouse, assessment results, etc.) for the purpose of providing documentation of activity. Implements behavior plans to assist students in modifying behavior (e.g. aggressiveness, sleeping in class, refusing to work, not preparing homework, etc.) for the purpose of providing interventions and support to meet the educational and emotional needs of each student. Instructs identified students one on one or in small groups (e.g. math groups, reading, behavioral skills, writing, verbal skills, etc.) for the purpose of assisting students in making progress toward their goals. Learns content of subjects being taught for the purpose of assisting Title I students in learning the required information. Maintains instructional materials and/or student files/records (e.g. assessment results, running records, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability of items and/or providing reliable information. Modifies instruction materials in conjunction with student's IEP for the purpose of supporting student's success and meeting educational needs. Monitors students (e.g. library, field trips, classroom activities, lunch room, bus, playground, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring a safe and positive learning environment. Performs record keeping and clerical functions (e.g. correcting papers, recording grades, copying, creating displays, collecting papers, distributing supplies, etc.) for the purpose of supporting the teacher in preparing records/materials/classroom environment. Records observations and incidents relating to specific students for the purpose of providing documentation and/or communicating information to appropriate personnel. Responds to inquiries from staff (e.g. administrators, psychologists, teachers, counselors, staff, etc.) for the purpose of providing information, direction and/or appropriate referrals. Teaches strategies for time management for the purpose of supporting students' developmental growth and educational needs. Other Functions Assists other personnel, as may be required, for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.

Requirements

  • SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment; preparing, managing, and maintaining accurate records; adhering to safety practices and procedures; administering first aid; analyzing data; applying assessment instruments; using curriculum and instructional techniques.
  • KNOWLEDGE is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: age appropriate activities, particularly pertaining to students with special learning needs; behavior management strategies; appropriate use of English; subject matter taught in assigned classrooms; stages of child development; assessment instruments and techniques; classroom instructional media and technology; concepts of grammar, spelling and punctuation; cultural differences of student population; health standards and hazards; job- related codes/laws/rules/regulations/policies; keyboarding; methods of instruction and training; office equipment and technology; school safety and security practices.
  • ABILITY is required to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; collate data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined and similar processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with specific, job-related data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. Some problem solving may be required to identify issues and select action plans. Problem solving with data requires following prescribed guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: maintaining confidentiality; exhibiting patience and compassion; working as part of a team; working with frequent interruptions; adapting to changing work priorities; communicating with persons of diverse backgrounds; organizing tasks; setting priorities; working extended hours; and working with detailed information/data.
  • Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is desired.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • District Proficiency or AA Degree or 60
