Requirements

  • Successful completion of student teaching or applicable field/volunteer work.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid Texas Teacher Certificate with required endorsements for the subject and level assigned.
  • Certification in Generalist/Core Subjects EC-4 or EC-6, including ESL certification ability.
  • Completion of Reading Academy training.
  • Ability to perform duties involving walking, sitting, standing, and some lifting.
  • Maintain a level of general physical/emotional health for effective performance of duties.
  • Ability to regularly lift and carry 1 - 25 pounds.
  • High level of mental alertness and ability to tolerate high levels of stress.

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with campus and district staff to determine instructional goals and objectives.
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies and materials that reflect understanding of students' learning styles.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Communicate information accurately and clearly to students and parents.
  • Utilize technology to enhance the teaching and learning process.
  • Assist students in analyzing and improving their study methods and habits.
  • Prepare and provide instruction based on accommodations outlined in students' IEPs.
  • Create a conducive classroom environment for students' physical, social, and emotional development.
  • Protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities through necessary precautions.
  • Report and communicate student progress to parents.
  • Resolve parent/student issues and concerns in a timely manner.
  • Serve as a positive role model for students.
  • Manage student behavior according to the Student Code of Conduct.
  • Monitor students and create a safe campus environment as assigned by the principal.
  • Attend campus events and extracurricular activities as assigned.
  • Assist in selecting instructional materials and equipment.
  • Participate in professional development and relevant ARD meetings.
  • Compile, maintain, and submit required reports and records.
  • Analyze critical needs in assigned areas and collaborate to improve programs.
  • Promote campus-wide initiatives including AVID.
  • Protect confidentiality of students and their families.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities.
  • Support the mission and vision of the campus and district.
  • Adhere to campus and district policies and procedures.
  • Comply with federal and state laws and local Board policy.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
