About The Position

The Elementary Teacher will have the primary responsibility of providing the students of the Palmyra-Macedon Central School District with a world-class, relevant education. Teachers will guide students in attaining the knowledge and skills necessary for success during their educational career as well as prepare our students to become college and career ready after graduation. Teachers will help students learn the skills and attitudes necessary to achieve a responsible, productive, and fulfilling life in our changing world. The guiding philosophy of a Palmyra-Macedon Teacher includes embracing learning for all, creating a collaborative culture, valuing collective capacity through job-embedded professional learning, focusing on results and not activities, implementing change for its effect on increased student achievement, and embracing the model of continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Possess the proper New York state certification for the position.
  • Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

  • Ability to occasionally travel extended distances, including overnights.

Responsibilities

  • Establish a culture of learning within the classroom.
  • Prepare lessons with appropriate content and relevant learning activities suitable for diverse learners.
  • Engage students in lessons and activities in a compelling, clear, and challenging way.
  • Use real-world context and integrate technology when appropriate.
  • Continually assess and analyze student learning, making adjustments that positively impact student learning.
  • Assess student work and provide timely feedback.
  • Utilize best practices and anticipate student misconceptions.
  • Reflect on lessons taught and make adjustments to enhance student learning.
  • Conduct and/or attend staff development opportunities.
  • Design and administer summative and formative assessments that align with District standards.
  • Collect and analyze data from student work and share with colleagues and administrators.
  • Create and maintain positive relationships with students and their families.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and share successful lessons with colleagues.
  • Volunteer for school events and seek out professional development opportunities.
  • Hold high standards of honesty, integrity, and confidentiality.
  • Participate in the development of local curriculum grounded in CCLS and other standards.
