About The Position

The Elementary Student Support Behavior Specialist at Orono Schumann Elementary is responsible for providing leadership and coordination for the implementation and maintenance of district-wide and building-specific initiatives focused on character, behavior, social-emotional, and academic development. This role involves assisting staff, students, parents, and the principal in enhancing organizational effectiveness and building operations. The specialist will support elementary staff in implementing tiered interventions and services through data collection, SAT interventions, and direct services.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters Degree preferred
  • Background in CharacterCounts!, PBIS, restorative practices, Responsive Classroom, and/or systems intervention preferred
  • Knowledge of District policies and procedures
  • Experience with curriculum and assessment design and data management preferred
  • Understanding of the role of parent involvement and the ability to collaborate with parents

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement multiple tiers of support for behavior intervention in elementary buildings
  • Conduct individual group and student intervention services
  • System level data collection and analysis for behavior and character programming
  • Initiate and maintain parent/guardian communication pertaining to individual student needs
  • Implement best practice behavior management strategies across the school system
  • Support students and staff in unique and unanticipated circumstances
  • Promote and teach proactive practices to minimize student behavioral needs
  • Creation of schedules for events
  • Execute appropriate discipline, attendance processes and procedures, such as restorative circles
  • Provide supervision and student coaching for recess/lunchroom as needed
  • Supervise bus loading and unloading
  • Meet with parents (e.g., new to school, those with concerns, PTO)
  • Assist in the direction of Student Assistance Team, site leadership team, etc.
  • Manage student 504 plans
  • Participate as a member of the District Crisis Team
  • Implement data collection systems to monitor student progress
  • Provide direct instruction in behavior modification strategies to students
  • Assist with the development and implementation of tiered instruction for students
  • Work collaboratively with team members to support the academic, social and emotional growth of elementary learners
  • Participate in regular PLC meetings as an active and engaged professional
  • Communicate frequently with parents, colleagues, students, and administrators through all available means of technology
  • Establish and maintain high standards for character growth
