About the position

The Elementary High Incidence Special Education Teacher at Salina Elementary Schools is responsible for providing specialized instruction and support to students with exceptional needs. This role involves designing and implementing Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs), creating a conducive learning environment, and collaborating with parents and educational teams. The teacher will assess student progress, maintain accurate records, and ensure compliance with educational policies and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in designated locations and times.
  • Assists in designing Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs) for students with exceptional needs.
  • Provides direct instruction and services for pupils as identified in their IEPs.
  • Monitors and consults on IEP changes with parents and planning teams.
  • Creates a conducive classroom environment appropriate to student maturity and interests.
  • Prepares for classes and provides evidence of preparation upon request.
  • Encourages students to maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Guides the learning process toward curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media based on student needs.
  • Implements the district's educational philosophy and instructional goals.
  • Assesses student accomplishments regularly and provides progress reports.
  • Diagnoses learning disabilities and seeks assistance from district specialists.
  • Takes precautions to protect students and classroom materials.
  • Maintains accurate records as required by policies and regulations.
  • Assists in implementing policies and develops classroom behavior rules.
  • Makes provisions for availability to students and parents for educational purposes.
  • Plans and supervises assignments for paraprofessionals and evaluates their performance.
  • Works cooperatively with staff on various tasks.
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on committees as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education.
  • Appropriate Kansas licensure.
