About The Position

The position involves providing high-quality instruction to students while collaborating with the school leader, colleagues, students, parents, and the board to achieve the academy's educational goals. The role requires working as a team member to implement the academy curriculum and meet both short- and long-term academic objectives. Responsibilities include creating a conducive classroom environment, planning individualized programs of study, developing lesson plans, and collaborating with special education staff to support students with diverse needs.

Requirements

  • State teacher licensure/certification with appropriate endorsements.
  • Bachelor’s degree with subject area emphasis and/or coursework and/or experience necessary to be deemed 'highly qualified'.
  • Demonstrated commitment to young people's learning success and achievement.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in a teaching/tutoring capacity through prior experience in education-related roles.

Responsibilities

  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior.
  • Enforce the academy's student discipline code and collaborate on school-wide behavior management systems.
  • Plan a program of study that meets individual student needs and goals, establishing clear objectives for lessons and units.
  • Ensure lessons are aligned with state curriculum and school-wide standards.
  • Develop lesson plans and submit them for review and feedback.
  • Work with the instructional coach to improve the quality of instruction based on feedback.
  • Participate in ongoing analysis and planning to align the curriculum with state standards.
  • Collaborate with special education staff to implement inclusive approaches for students with special needs.
  • Participate in child study teams or individualized education planning and implement accommodations as indicated in student IEPs.
  • Collaborate with staff to implement grant-funded programming for diverse student needs.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records and ensure confidentiality of student information.
  • Communicate with parents and encourage their participation in their child's learning experiences.
  • Maintain professional competence through conferences, mentoring, and continuing education.
  • Inform the school leader of needed instructional resources and serve as an active team member in various planning areas.
  • May participate in extracurricular activities such as coaching, clubs, and tutoring.
