About The Position

The Elementary School Counselor position is a remote role that focuses on promoting student success through a comprehensive school counseling program. The counselor will provide preventive services and respond to identified needs, guiding students in their academic success, social and emotional development, and career and college planning. The position requires a New Mexico Elementary School Counselor License, and candidates must reside in New Mexico or may be considered from other states. The role involves working independently, typically 40+ hours per week, and maintaining a professional home office environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Three years of experience in counseling and/or advisement.
  • School Counselor License.
  • Ability to clear required background check.

Responsibilities

  • Helps all students plan for postsecondary options including education, military enlistment, or workforce employment.
  • Implements academic achievement strategies.
  • Teaches students to manage emotions and apply interpersonal skills.
  • Focuses on college and career readiness for students and families.
  • Meets quarterly with all students on caseload to review graduation plans and post-secondary options.
  • Delivers classroom instruction based on student success standards.
  • Reviews transcripts and academic documentation for new and returning students.
  • Collaborates with teaching staff to develop a four-year graduation plan and audits student schedules.
  • Assists students in course placement and recommendations for Advanced Placement (AP) courses.
  • Analyzes student data to develop data-driven intervention action plans.
  • Provides short-term counseling and referrals for long-term support.
  • Supports standardized testing programs and parent education.
  • Advocates for students at individual education plan meetings.
  • Focuses on goal setting and academic planning for college and career readiness.
  • Travels up to 20% of the time for professional development and student testing.
