About The Position

The Macon R-1 School District is accepting applications for an Elementary School Counselor beginning the 2026-2027 school year. The successful candidate will support the academic, social-emotional, and development of elementary students while collaborating closely with staff, families and administration to foster a positive and supportive learning environment. The Elementary School Counselor provides a comprehensive school counseling program that address the developmental needs of all students. This indivudual will promote student success through individual and group counseling, classroom guidance lessons, crisis intervention, and collaboration with school personnel and families.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in School Counseling
  • Valid DESE issued Missouri School Counseling Certfication
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Be able to analyze and offer problem-solving techniques
  • Sensitivity to the developmental stages and well-being of all students

Responsibilities

  • Implements a Comprehensive School Counseling Program for students in grades K-4.
  • Designs, delivers, evaluates, and revises curriculum meeting the Missouri Grade Level Expectations for School Counseling covering the areas of academic, social/emotional, and career development.
  • Provides direct student services for students with social or emotional concerns that interfere with learning, including individual and group counseling, crisis counseling and referrals.
  • Consults with teachers, staff, parents/guardians, and other stakeholders regarding the needs of students.
  • Disseminates school and community resource information to students and families and networks with outside agencies to meet the needs of students.
  • Refers students with significant challenges to appropriate community resources in consultation with parents/guardians.
  • Maintains and respects confidentiality of student information, while maintaining the safety and welfare for all students.
  • Coordinates and conducts activities which contribute to the implementation of the elementary school counseling program.
  • Coordinates state testing with building principal and district test coordinator.
  • Assists with classroom placement and enrollment.
  • Participates in the special education referral/evaluation process as needed.
  • Advocates for systemic change, reducing barriers to learning and increasing success for all students.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of, and adheres to local, state, and federal policies, regulations, and laws pertaining to school counseling.
  • Adheres to the American School Counselor Association Ethical Standards.
  • Demonstrates continuous personal growth and professional development.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
