About The Position

The Cafeteria Manager at William E Norris School is responsible for providing nutritious and appealing meals for students while operating a fiscally independent school lunch program. The role requires creating and maintaining a positive and productive work environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or its equivalent.
  • ServSafe Certification.
  • Certification as a Food Service Manager.
  • Certification in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid.
  • Skill and experience in meal planning and food preparation.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and plan the preparation of any and all special meals, or foods, served at the school.
  • Prepare a long-range menu and inform students and parents in advance about menu choices.
  • Prepare food according to the planned menu and determine if the finished product is of best quality in both flavor and appearance.
  • Collaborate with the nurse, health administrators, and the Principal on the development and refinement of school nutrition policies.
  • Standardize portion sizes according to guidelines related to the age of those being served.
  • Prepare and administer the food services budget.
  • Purchase and maintain an inventory of all foods, supplies, and equipment.
  • Oversee student and staff meal accounts and a record of all meals and milk distributed.
  • Standardize cafeteria accounting procedures in cooperation with the Town Treasurer's Office.
  • Standardize prices charged for various types of meals or snacks and milk.
  • Inspect school lunch facilities and operation to ensure that standards of diet, cleanliness, health, and safety are being maintained.
  • Recommend and request new equipment and/or repair of the existing equipment.
  • Interview, screen, and recommend appointment of all cafeteria personnel.
  • Plan employee work schedules and arrange for substitutes as needed.
  • Supervise the food service personnel payroll.
  • In conjunction with the Principal, evaluate the performance of other kitchen personnel.
  • Instruct new and continuing employees regarding safety, cleanliness, and job responsibilities.
  • Apply for federal school lunch subsidies.
  • Apply for government surplus food for cafeteria use.
  • Use government commodities as part of the ongoing good service program.
  • Review and verify all government reimbursements.
  • Prepare specification for bids in accordance with School Committee policy.
  • Clean and thoroughly prepare the kitchen area for closure during vacation periods.
  • Check food shipments received and authorize invoices for payment.
  • Maintain records of food received and an inventory of goods in storage.
