About The Position

Reading Specialist (LTS) January 16, 2026, through the end of the school year Long Term Substitutes receive a daily rate of $125.00 for the first 20 days of work. Starting on the 21st day, they are compensated at the daily rate for either a Bachelor's ($344.82) or Master's ($370.56) level, based on their qualifications, for the remainder of their assignment. Reading Specialists improve student achievement and learning by providing literacy leadership to staff in their classroom practices in literacy instruction, curriculum, and assessment. They provide instructional guidance and support to teachers and students in a student-learning environment that enables students to acquire skills appropriate to age, grade level, and individual capacity. They support all learners in meeting high expectations as well as provide on-going rigorous and relevant professional development to staff. Reading Specialists are team oriented educators who employ data-driven practices to directly target the instructional needs of all learners. Requirements

  • Elementary Certification (Elementary K-2 or 1-6, Special Education, Reading Specialist)
  • Knowledge of research-based best practices and interventions in literacy
  • Ability to analyze student and school data
  • Ability to effectively develop and deliver literacy professional learning
  • Completion of or willingness to complete the following trainings: Wilson 3-Day Structured Literacy

Responsibilities

  • Direct, explicit and data-driven instruction for targeted students in Tiers 1, 2 and 3 within the area of literacy
  • Engage in various meetings, such as but not limited to: data team meetings, progress monitoring meetings and department meetings
  • Plan and implement small group remedial and enrichment instruction in literacy
  • Model literacy lessons and support in planning and implementation of small group reading instruction
  • Organize resources and support staff in determining best instructional materials to use with students
  • Provide on-going support around district initiatives
  • Support building-based interventionists
  • Inform principals and staff of new developments and trends in reading as reflected in current research and experimentation
  • Create resources for staff to support in the implementation of small group instruction
  • Assist in the running of district and building-based Professional Development
  • Provide consultation with educators regarding specific students literacy needs
  • Collaborate with district stakeholders to support in the implementation of the comprehensive literacy plan at both the building-based and district level
